Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
